Amid the chaos of DC, President Trump and the First Lady celebrated the the time-honored National Christmas Tree Lighting.
President Trump wished everyone a "Merry Christmas." The President also thanked the workers from the National Park Foundation for their efforts in setting up the display, entertainers including the Dominican nuns from Ann Arbor, and students who designed tree ornaments.
Posting a picture of the lit Christmas tree, President Trump tweeted: "On behalf of
@FLOTUS Melania and the entire Trump family, I want to wish you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS! May this Christmas Season bring peace to your hearts, warmth to your homes, cheer to your spirits and JOY TO THE WORLD!"
According to the NationalTree.org, the tradition began when "In 1923, President Calvin Coolidge walked from the White House to the Ellipse to light a 48-foot fir tree decorated with 2,500 electric bulbs in red, white and green, as a local choir and a “quartet” from the U.S. Marine Band performed."
Almost a century later, the tradition of the National Tree Lighting still brings tidings of comfort and joy.
