John Brennan, former CIA director, has taken to Twitter to accuse President Trump of "high crimes and misdemeanors" after the joint U.S./Russia summit and press conference in Helsinki, Finland. Brennan tweeted, "Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of “high crimes & misdemeanors.” It was nothing short of treasonous. Not only were Trump’s comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin. Republican Patriots: Where are you??"
Brennan’s call-to-arms was designed to be eerily reminiscent of Paul Revere’s famous warning. However Brennan’s call for the troops to rally was for the express purpose of removing a duly elected president on the grounds of “high crimes & misdemeanors". John Brennan’s agenda is no longer lurking in the shadows, but is now a matter of public record.
Immediately, Democrats, establishment Republicans, former state department officials, and mainstream media operatives took to the airwaves and the internet, declaring the arrival of Armageddon - their cries reaching a level of hysteria never before seen in this country. Their efforts were designed to raise a public outcry against the president, because they know that they need the support of the American people in order to remove Donald Trump from office. Article 2, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution establishes that, “The President, Vice-President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors." This is the constitutional authority for impeachment of criminals who hold any federal office in the land.
We often think of Presidents, when we hear the word impeachment. Only two presidents have actually been impeached: Andrew Johnson, and Bill Clinton. Andrew Johnson was charged with the violation of the "Tenure of Office Act" thereby bringing into " disgrace, ridicule, hatred, contempt, and reproach the Congress of the United States”. Bill Clinton was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice stemming from a sexual harrassment lawsuit brought by Paula Jones. Although the House of Representatives impeached both men, the Senate would not remove either man from office.
John Brennan's call for the impeachment of a sitting United States President based on his" press conference performance in Helsinki" is imbecilic, yet very serious. The mass hysteria of the forces arrayed against Donald Trump remains a dangerous threat to the stability of our nation. The American people should take notice.
