In 2016, I wrote a parody book “Goodnight Obama” to celebrate Barack Obama’s impending exit from the White House after eight years as president.
Modeled after “Goodnight Moon,” this book featured a series of cartoons, starting with a front cover illustration showing Obama asleep on the Oval Office’s famous resolute desk, wearing footie pajamas featuring DNC donkeys.
Wearing his DNC footie pajamas throughout the book, Obama says goodbye to a wide range of administration notables and celebrity stars positioned on adjoining pages highlighted by short rhymes.
One page showing Obama being interviewed by Ellen DeGeneres reads: “Goodnight Talk Shows, Celebrity Whoring Now Done,” faces a page where Obama is walking away scorned by a group of Red Necks standing with weapons and an American flag around a pickup-truck. “And Goodnight to all Those Clinging to their Bibles and their guns.”
The cartoon parody book features cameo appearances by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Michael Moore, and Vladimir Putin, before ending with a cartoon of Obama waving from the podium a copy of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals,” as the text proclaims, “Goodnight 8 Years of Fundamental Change.”
